About the Course

This Coaching Skills for Police & Law Enforcement Supervisors training course will help the delegates develop coaching, mentoring, performance review, and interaction skills with colleagues, line managers, stakeholders, and service users to improve personal and organisational performance. Helping others achieve their potential is a key leadership skill; it will assist in recognising and supporting the development of themselves and their staff. It will focus on performance improvement at the individual, team, and organisational levels using coaching and mentoring to enable more self-reliant learning. The 70:20:10 model of organisational learning practices and tools will be explored with coaching and mentoring contextualised within organisational learning environments.

This will allow the delegates to consider their learning, coaching, and mentoring styles and how best to adapt to any given developmental situation, e.g., a challenging staff appraisal. This highly interactive course explores underpinning theories and best practices allowing delegates to put knowledge and skills into practice in a safe learning environment before identifying time, place, and opportunities to transfer learning back into their workplace.

Key areas of coaching and mentoring such as communication, body language, cultural considerations, contracting and skills required will be explored and set within the culture and context of 21^st Century Policing. It will also consider the relationship between leadership and coaching and explore the expanding practice of ‘coaching as a leader’. Through practical exercises, delegates can ‘try out’ coaching, applying approaches that best suit their style and skills and recognising the context in which their organisation operates.
